Beechwood Inn Restaurant was one of the area’s first BBQ caterers. They quickly became famous for providing the best tasting, cooked on site BBQ, for groups of up to 10,000 in all of West Michigan.
In 2010, Beechwood hired on their own in-house Pit Master, Russ “Rusty” Shilander. Rusty brought his years of BBQ smoking experience to Beechwood, which he had perfected as a regular competitor in Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned BBQ competitions. Those years of competing helped him create a recipe for making the best tasting, mouthwatering pork: a secret smoked pork recipe that is slow smoked for up to 24 hours and seasoned with just the right amount of sweet and spice.
This great tasting pork is why the two decided that this slow smoked BBQ, paired with the years of BWI’s own BBQ reputation, just had to be taken on the road.
Wood Truck BBQ is born.
